Surrounded Serenity

The womb is a space we have all inhabited yet have no recollection of.

Surrounded Serenity is a VR experience that takes the user inside a symbolic womb and gives them a feeling of comfort, a disconnect from reality and its anxieties, and a chance at symbolic rebirth.

Ithra Opening Night

At the conclusion of the Creative Solutions Lab program, an opening night event was held at Ithra.

Each project was presented on stage to an audience of industry professionals and media representatives.

In addition, each project had its own booth where attendees could explore and experience the final works.

Development

There is something about being immersed in VR that reminds me of the womb…and its comfort.

There is a psychoanalytic theory that explores the notion that many human behaviors are driven by a desire to return to a state of pre-birth security.

The womb as a symbol of absolute safety, warmth, and unity.

So I began with research.

Trying to understand the phases of fetal development in the womb, for instance, they can only see the color red.

A fetus can sense the mother’s sense of hearing, taste, and smell.

So the sense became elements that the VR user could interact with.

I wrote the script, created the storyboards, and off to production.
